Bo’s long-awaited M e-scooter is finally set for production and has had the final specification announced. Packed with "state-of-the-art engineering and innovations", the brand is aiming for the high-end, minimalist end of the market. They have also confirmed that further additions to the model range can be expected over the coming months.
Bo was founded in 2019 by former Jaguar Land Rover and Williams F1 Advanced Engineering designers. This background in automotive design is something that the company says gives them a "fundamental understanding of vehicle dynamics and manufacturing". So far they have only the M in their repertoire, but after 24 months of refinement, they’re now ready to put the e-scooter into production, according to CEO and co-founder Oscar Morgan.
“Moving to production is a momentous moment for our company. The entire Bo team has worked tirelessly with a common aim; to create a product that will consistently delight our riders.
"The team has been focused on developing game-changing features, like our Monocurve chassis with integrated Lock and Load hooks, and safety enhancements such as Safesteer™, whilst using our experience in automotive design to build visually exciting vehicles people feel proud to own and ride.
"We are excited to see the culmination of these efforts within the Bo M and I cannot wait for our first riders to take delivery of their M later this year."
What refinements have been made?
Among the refinements made over the last two years include a claimed 100% improvement to the chassis strength, and a retooling of the main chassis section to increase the width to hold a bigger battery and for ‘improved ergonomics’.
The chassis is created using a Monocurve design, which gives it a very distinctive look, but does mean that it can’t be folded. Bo does say, however, that this means the steering can be separated from the chassis, and allows the e-scooter to take full advantage of the brand’s SafesteerTM technology.
This SafesteerTM technology is said to help to keep the front wheel stable despite its small size, a problem often faced by e-scooters.
Elsewhere, there have been developments to the Halo lighting with a new maximum of 800 lumens on the front headlight. Bo has also updated the peak motor power from 1,000W to 1,2000W.
The handlebars have also been widened to 580mm, and to add to the stability of the product, there is a 930mm wheelbase and 76 degree steering angle for more control.
Other features
But besides looking rather space-age, Bo seems to have thought about practical things as well, like carrying stuff. The Lock and Load system, for example, which amounts to revolving hooks mounted to the front end of the e-scooter, allows riders to carry cargo up to 10kg so you don’t need to hang your shopping bag off the handlebars. It also acts as a secure locking point for the e-scooter.
The Bo M has a top speed of 21mph (in the appropriate countries) and a 655Wh battery for a range of up to 50km. For those wondering whether it is suited to anywhere beyond flat areas, the team claims to have tested it up to 22.5° inclines with success. The braking also utilises regenerative technology paired with a sealed front drum brake for more control.
The first pre-order units are expected to arrive from November, with more available from February 2024. The total price of the Bo M is £2,249 with a reservation of £100.
