E-bike subscription firm Zoomo has revealed a fully-functional prototype of its speed pedelec (S-pedelec). The 45km/h (28mph) e-bike is aimed at delivery riders and is being billed as a “moped killer”.
Zoomo offers weekly e-bike subscriptions as well as outright purchase and rent-to-buy options.
Historically, its offering has centred on 25km/h (15mph) e-bikes, with the inclusion of repairs and servicing a key draw for those who use the vehicles for work.
The firm flagged that it was developing the Zoomo One in December with the higher top speed pushing the bike over the legal line that separates electrically-assisted pedal cycles from mopeds.
> When does an e-bike officially become a moped?
"The Zoomo One can be considered a 'moped killer' as its unique design will help eliminate petrol mopeds from roads,” said Zoomo CEO and co-founder, Mina Nada.
Head of hardware Christopher Krainer said that durability and “serviceability” had been key concerns during development and said there would be great scope for customising the bike.
The Zoomo One features a 1kW 45Nm rear hub motor, an 884Wh battery, front and rear suspension, hydraulic disc brakes and a belt drive instead of a chain. Integrated lighting comprises front, rear and side lights with indicators and a brake light.
It’ll be launched in the US later this year and in the UK and Europe in 2023.
