Dave lives at the top of a big hill and his office is at the bottom, so he's all in favour of a helping hand. Plus, e-bikes are fun! He's the editor of ebiketips and one of the founders of EBT's road cycling sister site, road.cc. He used to work on Cycling Plus and What Mountain Bike back in the day, and he's a former mountain bike bog snorkelling World Champion. Really.

Hi Dave, I've taken the plunge and gone for the "Eco" (for which read UK Street Legal) version with an additional battery. On top of the price you mention above, there is also a $150 shipping fee, but that's still less than the nearly $1,100.00 price tag when they eventually go to market.

Aside from the claimed power efficiency, the main reason I wanted this was I'm not an avid cyclist, but I do like being out in the fresh air, and I am very concerned about reducing my carbon footprint.

I don't want to have a whole new bike even though the one I have is over 15 years old, it's greener to adapt it than replace it.

Another thing I've considered is that I am most likely to be using it in the late Spring to early autumn when the PVs on the roof are making excess electricity. What better way to get about, than powered by the sun!
