Ebiketips readers might be most familiar with Pure for their Flux One e-bike - a belt drive, single speed that has earned a lot of plaudits for being a low maintenance and well-priced city run-around. Pure are now making quite a big splash with an interesting looking design of e-scooter, the Pure Air Advance, which they themselves hail as revolutionary.
Is it really ‘the e-scooter reimagined’ as Pure claim? We certainly haven't seen anything like it before on the UK market. It's really about achieving a step-change in e-scooter performance though, as Pure claim it performs, "on a whole new level. With more stability, greater control and advanced safety..."
The unconventional riding position - enabled by fold out running board style 'footpads' - claims to spread your weight evenly on either side of the chassis and combines with steering that returns to a central position automatically.
The forward facing riding position is said to be more comfortable and to lower the rider's centre of gravity. The 'Pure Control' steering uses a spring to return the steering column to a central position, resisting twitchy steering input at low speed.
There will be three models in the range - Advance, Advance+ (the largest battery model with a claimed range of 30 miles versus the 25 miles of the other models) and Advance Flex. All share a powerful looking 500W rated hub motor and all have a quoted weight of 16kg. There are also front and rear lights and indicator lights across the range.
Most novel of all is the Flex, with its fold-in-half frame and extendable handlebar post. All models feature a front drum brake and rear electronic regenerative brake. There are also front and rear lights, turn indicators and Bluetooth connectivity.
The Advance is available for pre-order now, with the three models priced £799, £899 and £1,099.
The launch of the Advance is all part of a move away from e-bikes for Pure. It announced in July it would in fact phase out the sale of e-bikes to concentrate on its own brand e-scooters. This coincides with a a new crowdfunding campaign via Crowdcube which holds the promise of more investment in more new micromobility products.
