German bicycle manufacturer Cube has issued a warning against buying bikes from non-official dealers following the robbery of nine e-bikes.

In a bizarrely bodged robbery, thieves stole nine bikes ahead of the Cycle Show in Birmingham last week. 

While the bandits made off with nine bikes, worth over £25,000, they managed to forget the battery keys for the bikes as well as stealing several bikes that didn't have batteries installed in them.

The bikes stolen were from three ranges: Cube's Stereo Hybrid 160 and 140 models, worth £3299 and £3199 respectively, and the Access WLS Hybrid Race 500 models, worth £2199, were the bikes stolen.

As a result of the robbery Cube were forced to show a different selection of bikes at the show. Cube marketing manager Carola Noordermeer did manage to see a funny side to the fiasco, saying "well, we are happy our bikes are so popular."

She went on to warn customers against purchasing Cube bikes from non-official dealers.

"I want to emphasize to cyclists the importance of a certified dealer," she said. "They are the only dealers that will offer full warranty and service."

The list of bikes Cube has asked for e-bike dealers to keep an eye out for - including each of the bike's unique frame number - is below. The company ask anyone with any information to contact them on +34 10 340 35 00.
