Helmet manufacturer Lazer are fully embracing the e-bike revolution. Of course, pretty much any certified helmet will do the job on an e-bike but this new Anverz lid is the company's first to be designed specifically for pedal assist bikes, and complies to the new Dutch NTA8776 standard.

What's NTA8776?

Over on the continent the EU laws regarding electric bikes still apply, but many countries also allow more powerful speed pedelecs (or S-pedelecs) as well. These bikes are normally limited to 350W and a maximum assistance speed of 45km/h, although the exact rules vary from country to country. That's a lot quicker than the 25km/h that standard e-bikes are limited to, so the Dutch Standardisation Institute has created a separate classifcation for S-pedelec helmets which offers greater protection. It's in between a standard bike helmet and a moped helmet, basically. We don't have S-pedelec legislation in the UK, but the Anverz helmet is still an interesting development.

The more protection you add the heavier and hotter a helmet gets, but since on an e-bike you're letting the bike take the strain it's less of an issue. The Anverz extends the protection of the helmet down over the ears, a bit like a moped helmet, but the shell of the helmet is still ventilated. The Anverz is compatible with Lazer's Aeroshell cover to block up the vents if it's cold or wet. The ear covers have a honeycomb vented section to allow you to hear what's going on, and the helmet is also designed to be compatible with Bluetooth speakers.

At the front you get a full visor to keep the wind and rain out of your eyes, something you'll be glad of at 45km/h we're sure. The Anverz uses a bike-helmet-style adjustable retention system to keep it in place.
