VanMoof are busy taking pre-orders of their new e-bike, the Electrified S, which looks to be some way ahead of the curve when it comes to integration and connectivity. The bike goes on sale in June and will cost €2,998, but at the moment you can put your name down for one and save €700 off the full retail price.

"In reinventing the e-bike, we were determined to build a bike that is beautiful inside and out, but with brains to match," said Ties Carlier, VanMoof's co-founder. "We're confident we've built the smartest and most connected e-bike on the market, and one that advances VanMoof's mission of breaking down barriers to commuting, empowering more people to get from point A to point B in cities around the globe."

Reinvented? Well, not exactly. It still looks like a bike, after all. But the Electrified S is certainly home to some interesting technology.

For a start, the electrics are fully integrated. The battery is located in the down tube, with the control electrics in the top tube. There's a touchpad display recessed into the front of the top tube, and integrated lights front and rear. The motor is in the front wheel and VanMoof claim a range of 120km for the bike; what that equates to in the real world remains to be seen. The Electrified S features a power boost button to help you away from the lights or give you an extra shove up the hills.

The bike can be controlled via an app on your smartphone. This gives you access to all the bike's configuration options as well as showing data such as battery life, which is also available via the bike's inbuilt screen. The VanMoof has an integrated lock which can only be locked and unlocked via the app, so don't forget your phone!

The Electrified S will be available in three colours: silver, black and white. It's a one-size frame that should be suitable for most adult riders. There will also be a range of accessories for the bike including a porteur front rack and a frame-mounted external lock, more details of these will be made public closer to the launch.
