If you’re used to seeing the price of e-bikes spiral ever upwards as the exchange rate plummets, then you’ll be glad to know that at least one company is bucking the trend. Emu Electric bikes has announced that from now on their range of good-looking city bikes will be £200 cheaper, starting at £999.
We reviewed the Emu recently, and it’s a very likeable city cruiser that copes well with urban use. The integrated battery is neat and it’s well specced for low-maintenance use with a 7-speed Shimano hub gear transmission, full mudguards, pannier rack and integrated lights. The new bikes also come with an easy-to-read colour LCD display. You can read the review of the bike here.
One thing that we weren’t so convinced about was the price: £1,199 for the 374Wh battery seemed a bit over the odds. So we’re delighted to see that the price of all of the bikes has dropped by £200, as of now. That means the 374Wh battery build costs £999, the 418Wh build is £1,099, and the 490Wh build is £1,199. Each of the bikes is the same apart from the battery, and there are diamond and step-through frames available at each price point.
Jonathan Rose, Emu’s MD, said, “We now not only offer the best looking e-bike but also the best value, all backed by a two year warranty from our 80 year old parent company.” Whether or not you think the Emu is the best looking or best value e-bike, we certainly welcome the price drop and think that it makes the Emu a solid choice for cycle-to-work money.
