Tokyo has a new e-moped share scheme. Tokyo being Tokyo, the vehicles are quirky-looking things that fold down when not in use so that they occupy minimal space.
Time Out reports that the scheme is run by a firm called Shaero.
At first glance, the vehicles look like they perhaps have more in common with e-scooters than mopeds, but you need to have a moped licence to ride one.
The mopeds fold up to be stowed away in small lockers with charge points. Inside these lockers, users will also find helmets (which are another requirement for riding).
A 15-minute ride costs 200 Japanese yen (about £1.30). The cost for 24 hours is 10 times that and then it’s 10 times that again for 30 days.
There are currently 10 rental stations, but Shaero is looking to install 200 by next summer.
