Chinese electric motorbike brand Super Soco is to bring its affordable 26mph e-moped to the UK. With a relatively small motor and that low top speed, the CU Mini can be ridden on the AM motorcycle licence that covers 50cc mopeds.
An AM licence allows riders aged 16 and over to ride lower powered electric mopeds with a speed range of 25km/h to 45km/h. If you passed your driving test before February 1, 2001, you can legally ride one without taking compulsory basic training (CBT) or a full moped test. (You will however still need tax and insurance.)

The CU Mini is a classic example. A simple, low maintenance, twist-and-go e-moped aimed at younger riders and city dwellers, Super Soco are pitching it as, “safer than an e-scooter, and with more range.”
The 600W motor is powered by a removable 1.1kWh battery that is said to be good for around 25 miles. Charging is via a standard three-pin UK plug outlet.
The moped weighs 50kg, 7kg of which is the battery. You also get front and rear disc brakes, a keyless ignition, a built-in alarm and a tracker.
The official price is actually £1,849, but with an Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) grant, that comes down to £1,699.
