Tern say the small-wheeled design is a new category of e-bike they dub 'compact utility'. Smaller wheels mean punchier acceleration and allows for a practical machine that can be built around the motor for more storage potential.
It's also very adjustable, with a dropper seatpost and bars so the bike can be ridden by riders from 150cm up to 195cm. To summarise the GSD's storage capabilities, it can happily carry 'two kids, a week’s worth of groceries, or 180 kg of cargo', plus a guitar if you so desire like the doting dad in the video below...
The GSD's finishing kit is focussed on robustness and longevity, including Magura 4 piston disc brakes, custom 2.4" Schwalbe Super Moto-X tires, Boost thru-axle hubs, and custom 36mm width double-joined rims.
The bike includes a huge number of accessories which goes a good way to justifying its 3,999 Euro starting price tag: you get a pair of 62 litre panniers, a Bosch Performance mid-drive in 400 or 500 watt configurations, integrated lighting, rack, mudguards, double kickstand, and even retractable passenger foot pegs. It's also packable, able to fit in the back of a people carrier.
