The Tern GSD is one of our favourite all-purpose bikes here at ebiketips, and it’s even more useful now with the launch of a couple of new accessories that combine with existing add-ons to create a fully waterproof space at the back for kids and cargo.
The revamped GSD is designed with running decks built in at the rear; that was one of the design changes when the range was updated. But for more security a set of Sidekick Wide Decks is also available, which fit over the top, and these combine with the Clubhouse+ enclosure to make a space for carrying older kids on the bench seat at the back.
The two new accessories add on to the Clubhouse+ and the add-on decks. At the bottom is the Storm Box, which is a waterproof enclosure that creates a big space on the back of the bike for kids or cargo. You can top it off with a tonneau cover if you’re carting shopping in the rain.
If it’s children you’re transporting then you can make a fully weatherproof enclosure for them to sit in by adding the Storm Shield on top. It has a structure of fibreglass poles supporting a waterproof fabric roof, and there are full-width zipped windows on either side to allow easy access. Inside there are a selection of pockets for holding drinks, snacks and toys. Outside there’s a good helping of reflective detailing and the rear panel is fluorescent yellow for maximum visibility in traffic. The Storm shield attaches with Velcro straps and is simple to add or remove depending on the weather.
"If we're going to convince more people to ride, then we need to make the journey more comfortable for all passengers," stated Josh Hon, Tern Team Captain. "So we've created a system that helps keep kids warm and dry. And we're confident that parents will appreciate the reduction in complaints and time wrestling kids into rain suits."
We’ve already had a week with the Clubhouse Fort accessories and you’ll see them in a video coming up soon on ebiketips; watch out for a review of the new GSD on the site very soon too. The new bike should begin to arrive in bike shops in December and January, and the Storm Shield is also backwards compatible with the original GSD. The Storm Box and Storm Shield will retail for approx. £220 each, and will be available in the new year.
