Four new bikes from Riese & Müller

Touring, city, cargo and mountain bike models for 2018

The German bike company Riese & Müller have long been known for their Birdy folding bikes but in the last few years they’ve made a name for themselves in the e-bike sector too, with some really high quality bikes across all sorts of riding. The 2018 range continues that trend: here are some highlights.

Delite GT Signature

Riese & Müller is 25 years old, and to celebrate they’re producing a strictly limited edition of their Delite full-suspension touring bike. Only 25 Delite Signature GT bikes will be made, and each will be delivered with a certificate hand-signed by Markus Riese and Heiko Müller. Only the absolute best components are used in the build: The transmission is Shimano XTR Di2, the suspension front and rear is Fox Factory, and you get a Bosch DualBattery system as standard.

This has resulted in a top-class E-Bike in terms of Riese & Müller expertise and riding behaviour. It will appeal to those who enjoy technology, aesthetics and maximum dynamics.” Deep pockets are also a necessity: the Delite GT Signature will set you back £8,999.

Supercharger

When Bosch announced the DualBattery capability for their e-bike systems, Riese & Müller were one of the first builders to jump on it, offering twin battery versions of some of their models including the Charger, an e-MTB that can also be specced with road tyres and kit for touring or city use. They’ve taken that process one step further with the Supercharger, which allows the use of two of Bosch’s new internally-mounted Powertube batteries, one in the top tube and one in the down tube.

"The Supercharger represents a top-class electric bike”, says Heiko Müller. “Maximum range, bold appearance and the comfortable seating position cyclists have become accustomed to with the Charger – all combine to make the bike perfect for long distance cyclists.”

The bike will be available in seven builds. The second battery is a cost option.

Supercharger GT nuvinci HS (£4,589): Bosch Performance Speed, 500 Wh PowerTube, continuous NuVinci, belt drive, Fat Tires.

Supercharger GX rohloff (£5,309): Bosch Performance CX, 500 Wh PowerTube, 14-speed hub gear Rohloff, belt drive, Fat Tires.

Supercharger GX rohloff HS (£5,579): Bosch Performance Speed, 500 Wh PowerTube, 14-speed hub gear Rohloff, belt drive Rohloff, Fat Tires.

Supercharger mountain (£4,499): Bosch Performance CX, 500 Wh PowerTube, 11-speed Shimano Deore XT, Fox suspension forks.

Packster 40

The Packster cargo bike has been in the Riese & Müller range in previous years, with a choice of a 60cm or 80cm cargo platform, but now the company is offering a new 40cm build that they see as a crossover between full cargo and city bikes. There’s still enough room for plenty of groceries, or a child seat, but the bike is smaller and easier to store, and at under 30kg it’s light for a cargo bike too.

The Packster is available in five builds, and again there’s an option to spec a DualBattery system for extended range.

Packster 40 city (£3,599): Bosch Active Cruise, 400 Wh, 8-gear Shimano Nexus.

Packster 40 touring (£3,959): Bosch Performance CX, 500 Wh, 10-gear Shimano Deore.

Packster 40 touring HS (£4,499): Bosch Performance Speed, 500 Wh, 10-gear Shimano Deore.

Packster 40 nuvinci (£4,409): Bosch Performance CX, 500 Wh, continuous NuVinci, belt drive.

Packster 40 nuvinci HS (£4,949): Bosch Performance Speed, 500 Wh, continuous NuVinci, belt drive.

Roadster

Again, the Roadster city bike has featured in previous Riese & Müller ranges but the bike has been fully revised for 2018. Available in white or electric green with colour-coded mudguards, the Roadster will be one of the first Riese & Müller bikes to use the new Bosch Active Line Plus motor, which swaps the small geared drive ring with a direct drive chainring.

The bike is a classy and uncomplicated city bike with optional rack at the rear. There’s also a wooden-based porteur rack available for the front of the bike. Hub-gear and derailleur versions of the bike are available, and there are four builds in total. All are available with diamond or low-stepover mixte frames.

Roadster urban (£3,329): Bosch Active plus, 500 Wh, 11-speed Shimano Alfine, belt drive.
